At Khartoum Aid Kitchen, we ensure every donation is delivered with care and put to good use. Your Zakat this Ramadan will allow us to distribute our Ramadan Food Boxes - essential parcels filled with staples that help families survive displacement, hunger, and loss - as well as our nutrition programme aimed at vunerable children. By giving this month, you help restore dignity, nourish hope, and extend mercy to those most affected by the ongoing war.

This Ramadan, your donations will go towards our food parcels and nutrition programme.

How to use the Zakat Calculator

To use our Zakat Calculator, begin by entering the value of the wealth you currently hold. You may input the total value of your gold and silver directly, or use the option to determine their value based on the weight you own. Next, include your cash, savings, investments, money owed to you, and any business assets. Finally, add any debts or immediate outgoings that should be deducted. Once all fields are completed, go ahead and click the 'calculate' button and the calculator will instantly display your zakat amount, helping you fulfil this important obligation with clarity and confidence.

How Zakat Works

Zakat is an obligatory form of charity due once a Muslim’s wealth exceeds the nisab threshold for a full lunar year. It is calculated at 2.5% of eligible assets after deducting any immediate debts or liabilities. Zakat purifies one’s wealth, supports those in need, and strengthens the wider community. By assessing your assets carefully, you ensure that your contribution is both accurate and meaningful.

Understanding the Nisab

The nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before zakat becomes obligatory. It is traditionally measured using the value of either gold or silver. To ensure greater accessibility and to encourage broader support for those in need, many organisations - including ours - use the silver nisab, which is based on the value of 612.36 grams of silver. If your total zakatable wealth meets or exceeds this amount, zakat becomes due at a rate of 2.5%.

Who pays Zakat?

Zakat is obligatory for every adult Muslim who possesses wealth above the nisab threshold for a full lunar year. This wealth must be fully owned, accessible, and free from immediate obligations. If your zakatable assets meet or exceed the nisab and have remained at or above this level over the course of a lunar year, then zakat becomes due at a rate of 2.5%. This ensures that those with sufficient means contribute to the welfare of those in need.

What is Zakatable?

Zakat applies to specific categories of wealth that have the potential to grow. These include gold and silver, cash and savings, investments, business assets, and money owed to you that is expected to be repaid. These items form the basis of your zakatable wealth and should be assessed carefully to ensure your calculation is accurate and complete.

Certain personal items are not subject to zakat, as they are considered essential for daily living rather than forms of wealth intended for growth. These include your primary residence, personal vehicle, household furniture, clothing, and other everyday personal belongings. By excluding these items, the calculation focuses solely on assets that reflect surplus wealth, ensuring your zakat assessment remains fair, accurate, and aligned with Islamic principles.

Disclaimer

This calculator provides an estimate based on widely accepted zakat principles and the silver nisab threshold. Individual circumstances may vary, and this tool should not be considered a substitute for personalised religious guidance. If you require tailored advice, we recommend consulting a qualified scholar or trusted religious authority.

It is also important to note that different zakat calculators may produce slightly different results. This can occur due to variations in the nisab type used (gold or silver), differences in how metal prices are sourced, or alternative interpretations of what constitutes zakatable wealth. Our calculator follows a clear and consistent methodology to provide a reliable estimate, but approaches can differ across organisations. If you have any doubts or wish to confirm your calculation, you may find it helpful to cross‑reference your results with other reputable zakat calculators.
